In fact, we’re sure The Depot Artspace gallery has never seen so much wood in its X years of existence. Wood? Surely, you must mean people… Well, there were plenty of people there too but despite the title of the exhibition hardly alluding to this sneaky little fact, an overriding theme of the panoply of works on display was that they all use wood, in one form or another, as the chosen medium for the artists’ meditations on the beautifully bizarre and the bizarrely beautiful.
Speaking of dead trees, this exhibition also acted as the modelling debut for Trendstreet’s own Maria Shans who collaborated with Cleo Barnett on a photo series titled “Taphophilia”, featuring Maria as one of the living dead on her Sunday stroll through the local cemetery. This is zombie nudism taken to new aesthetic and artistic heights. The other artists didn’t come up short either, as the concoction of pop art went down just as well as the free drinks on offer. The crowd that gathered for the event was just as eclectic as the art, which made the show even more colourful.
If you wish to witness this weird and wonderful explosion of textures and colours firsthand, then you have until the 2nd December to hop on a ferry to Devonport and take a pleasant stroll (with a stop-over at Devonport Chocolates on the way, of course!) to The Depot Artspace, details here:
